Download Festival Sydneyā¦ the first heavy festival Iāve covered since Soundwave 2015 was still a thing, and it was damn good.
Whilst this style of music is not my usual photo gig, itās actually where most of it began for me. My live music photo life was defined by unknown, small and some decent sized heavy bands playing in a local venue, and me photographing. I was that girl in the corner with a camera, sticking out like a sore thumb due to my non-black outfits of choice. Some of my greatest nights have been around this kind of music, including some of my best photography stories. My most notable being in the early days getting stuck on the outskirts of a circle pit and being knocked out against a wall - that was not so fun, but made for a great anecdote.
Download Festival began for me with a damn early flight to Sydney, a kerfuffle to collect my hire car, and my first attempt of driving around inner Sydney (side note: Sydney drivers are awful). Throughout the festival I saw so many faces from all around Australia that I hadnāt seen in years, and met some wonderful new ones. The night ended with me stoked on the high of shooting and exhausted from the actual shooting, eating salt and vinegar chips as I drove back to a friends brothers (who Iād never met before) house to sleep the night. Iām eternally grateful for that wonderfully comfortable couch-bed these kind hearted people put me up in.
ENJOY SOME PHOTOS OF THESE SICK BANDS!

On the Saturday night I received a very intriguing email, and by the Wednesday I was flying out of Brisbane.
Capturing Party in the Paddock was a bit of a bucket list gig for me after seeing the photos friends of mine had captured the year before. In typical Claudia style I didnāt do anything about it. It was the sweetest surprise that Saturday night being asked to capture this festival that I had fantasized about attending, in a state I fantasize about exploring.
The Wednesday night I flew down to Melbourne and stole my cousins Brunswick bed whilst she was in Japan. The Thursday morning I raced to the airport for a morning flight to Launceston, cabbed it to White Hills and pitched a pre-made tent in the cutest little paddock you could dream up.
Party in the Paddock was a festival shroud in barren grass with charming little mountains in the background. The punters were peculiar (in the nicest sense), the volunteers were eco-warriors (what every festival should be made of), and the lovely people that ran it were a tight-knit family of mates. We had the greatest team of photographers you could dream up, and I was so honoured to shoot amongst the loveliest supportive photo friends.
Notable mentions: Me asking people I was photographing (who were walking around the festival) why they seemed so familiar, to my utter embarrassment realising they were Middle Kids. Eating pulled jackfruit burgers / loaded jackfruit fries for almost every meal. Bringing back Weetbix as a breakfast staple.
The MOST notable mention: The guy that called out to me āYou should probably moveā, I reply āOh why?ā, they state āThereās a tiger snake next to youā so blasĆ© as if it were a turtle walking by rather than a super deadly snake. Cheers friend for the heads up. Thank you for not killing me Mr Snake.

Another year another Splendour. This year round I wasnāt as exhausted or horribly presented as I actually stayed at an AirBnB and slept in a real bed. Damn that was the best feeling after 12+ hour days photographing.
The weekend started by setting our accomodation up in Byron; three photographers and my future husband. Miranda, Charlie and myself set up workspaces as Jacob organised a huuuuuge dinner and beers for us. When Friday kicked off we were (or at least I was) a tad fuzzy, but it was a wonderful day nonetheless. I also met the cutest little bub you could imagine that day, and photographed him. The weekend went along with three exhaustive days of photographing. Despite the exhaustion it had to be one of my favourite Splendours Iāve captured. The people I met were delightful and surprisingly great to chat with, you couldnāt fault a single artist, and everyday start and ended in absolute perfection.

I donāt think Iāve ever seen so many pineapples in one places as I did at Big Pineapple Music Festivalā¦.
It was a warm and sunny May day filled with the bluest sky youāve ever seen. It was the perfect day for a festival. Campers were stoked, tipis were lining the grounds, patrons were slightly tipsy, and the background of the festival was brightened up by a gorgeous ferris wheel.
